Required Class Uniforms

Whether it be a tight hair bun helping the dancers turn better or the correct skirt helping them learn how to shape their arms, having your dancer in the proper uniform for class will enable them to concentrate on their dance practice and set them up for success. Please click on the name* of your dancer's program below to see the required uniform for their level.

*Vocational Levels are: Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1, & Advanced 2

NOTE: Dance uniforms should be purchased from Limbers Dancewear, The Dancewear Centre, The Dance Shop, Dance Box, Dance Street, or another dance store. Sometimes gently used items (like character shoes) can be found on Facebook Marketplace.

GIRLS

Ballet Dress (or Leotard & Skirt):

Similar to Capezio SE1037 Short Sleeve Dress Pink OR Amazon Short Sleeve Pull on Dress
- Please NO leotards with a snap-close crotch.

Socks (or tights):

Pink socks that come up the ankle.
Ballet tights can be worn if preferred, but do make it harder for the dancers to use the bathroom if needed.

Ballet Slippers:

Full sole pink leather ballet slippers with elastics.
- Please do not purchase canvas or satin ballet slippers as they are too slippery for the little dancers. Ballet slippers should not have bows or sequins on them.
- PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE BALLET SLIPPERS TOO BIG.

BOYS

T-shirt:

White, well fitted, short sleeved t-shirt

Shorts:

Navy shorts that they can easily move in

Socks:

White socks that come up the ankle

Leotard:

- Please do not purchase leotards with a snap-close crotch.

Skirt:

Mondor 16207 Pull-On Chiffon Skirt , Academy Pink (93)
- A full circle skirt is very important for this level.
- Please NO wrap skirts or fluffy tutus. Skirts should not be attached to the leotard.

GIRLS

Leotard:

Capezio SE1012 Wide Strap Camisole Leotard, Navy (This specific leotard is required for all classes and exams. Limbers Dancewear stocks it for us.)

Tights:

Pink tights (convertible/transition for Grade 5). (Tights should be a proper dance brand, such as: Bloch, Capezio, Mondor, or Motionwear).

Ballet Slippers:

Full sole pink leather ballet slippers with elastics. Please purchase a proper brand of ballet slippers, such as Bloch or Capezio.
Please do not get canvas or satin slippers or any shoes that are too big.

Character Shoes:

Bloch black canvas character shoes. Lower heel height for Grades 1 - 2. Higher Cuban heel for Grades 3 and 5. We will use these right from the beginning of the dance year.
- For those in Grade 4, please check with the studio to see if your child will be doing the character dance with or without character shoes.

Character Skirts:

To be provided for use if your child participates in an examination.

LADIES

Leotard & skirt:

Any modest leotard (and when needed, a co-coordinating wrap skirt) may be worn. PLEASE NO CUT-OUTS IN THE LEOTARDS. Please no metallic gymnastics leotards.

Tights:

Pink tights (convertible are best). (Some good brands are: Bloch, Capezio, Mondor, or Motionwear).

Shoes:

Canvas ballet slippers
Pointe shoes are needed for these levels (if your child has never had a pair of pointe shoes before, please DO NOT purchase pointe shoes until the teacher requests you to.)

MEN

Intermediate Foundation & Intermediate:

White leotard or well fitted short sleeved t-shirt worn tucked into tights
Grey, navy, or black stirrup tights
White socks worn over the tights
White or black canvas or leather soft ballet shoes with white elastic (split sole shoes are permitted)

Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1, & Advanced 2:

White, black, or navy leotard
Grey, navy or black stirrup tights
Short white socks (with grey or navy tights) or black socks (with black tights)

White or black canvas or leather soft ballet shoes with elastic. (If black shoes are worn, then socks should be black) (split sole shoes are permitted)

Lyrical/Contemporary Ballet

(Ages 6+)

Dancers can wear their regular ballet uniform or the following is also acceptable:

Girls:

Long-sleeved, form-fitting shirt
- NO CROP TOPS PLEASE
Skirt
Form fitting, black shorts, capris, or leggings
Bare feet (PLEASE DO NOT WEAR ONLY SOCKS AS IT IS A SLIPPING HAZARD)

Boys:

Form-fitting clothing
Bare feet (PLEASE DO NOT WEAR ONLY SOCKS AS IT IS A SLIPPING HAZARD)

All Mi-Cher Dancers

(Ages 3-18)

General Notes: All ballet attire must be clean and mended of all holes.

Hair: Dancers must have hair pulled back off their face in a tidy ballet bun. Click here for a great YouTube video on making a ballet bun. Please do not send dancers with plastic claw clips. If a dancer falls, these can be quite dangerous.

Jewelry: For safety reasons, jewelry is not permitted to be worn in class, except for small stud earrings. Dancers will be asked to remove jewelry before entering the dance room. If you have cultural or religious jewelry that must be worn at all times, please discuss this with the class instructor.

Shoes: Students must dance in proper dance shoes or bare feet, as wearing only socks or tights is a slipping hazard.

Perfume: We ask that you please do not wear perfumes, body sprays, or body oils at the studio, as some people have allergies and/or asthma. Dancers, please still wear your normal deodorant/antiperspirant.

Sweaters: Sweaters must be fully fitted to show form and posture. They are not a required part of the uniform, but if your dancer gets cold we recommend the Carmen Wrap Sweater by Wear Moi or something identical. The goal is for it to be skin tight so that we can see their bodies. Dancers will be asked to remove any loose fitting items.
